The first Think Pink In October Motorcycle Run was held on October 3, 2009 as an additional fundraiser for Unity Outreach of St. Augustine. During the past three years, its popularity has grown and now it has become a major fundraising event for Unity Outreach and the Judeen Memorial Foundation which assist those living with breast cancer. Through these two organizations, people with breast cancer have an improved quality of life for not only themselves, but also for the men and women they care for as well as those who care for them.
The Think Pink In October Motorcycle Run is a event offered by Unity Outreach of St. Augustine, a non-profit 501c-3 organization. The event is offered to create awareness and provide monetary support to people who are suffering from breast cancer in our local area. We do not raise funds to assist in finding a "cure for the cause". While that is a very important and a very needed part of breast cancer research, we are more of a "grass roots" organization that provides assistance and support to local people who are suffering from breast cancer. The funds we raise are used to assist women and men who are in need of financial assistance for co-pays, wigs, lymphedema, prosthesis, and other medical needs related to breast cancer.
Wendy Judeen Owens died at age 31 to breast cancer. The loss was devastating to the family. Out of the emptyness of grief, Unity Outreach, Inc. was founded due to the realization that there was a need for women to be more aware of the impotrance of their physical, emotional, and spiritual health. Our efforts are to prevent the loss of another loved one to this awful disease. Through education, fellowship, and support, this awareness will improve the quality of life for women and for those they care for and those who care for them.
In memory of Judeen, the Judeen Memorial Foundation was founded to assist those living with breast cancer.
